Valley Barn: Sold

This painting of Skagit Valley (Washington State) daffodils and the white barn was done from a photo I took on a Spring visit to the town of La Conner last year.    I fell in love with the poplars and the beautiful sunny sky.

New Crop: Sold

We purchased a bin of honeycrisp apples, and they of course had to be painted in one of my favorite bowls.

Fall Birches: Sold

I started this birch painting over a year ago, didn't like where it was headed and put it in a pile to "paint over".   Then recently I was looking for an 11 x 14 canvas, found the unfinished Birch painting and decided more sky poking through and thicker paint might do the trick -- so here is Cinderella of Birches, I hope.

Alki Afternoon: Sold

This painting is from a photograph taken on a beautiful summer morning looking West on Alki Beach Drive in Seattle, Washington.   I wanted to capture the brightness of the day through the shadows.  The distant figures are two people on bikes.

Cloudy Day: Sold

I painted canvas from a photo of a 100 year old apple and pear farm in the Northeast corner of Washington state.   It was a very soft day, overcase, with lovely Fall colors.

Northwest Sunset: Sold

Seattle's 2011 Fall has been gorgeous, and along with the beautiful reds and yellows in the trees, the sunsets have been spectacular.  I snapped a photo last week, and then used it for reference in this painting.

Odd Couple: Sold

I used lots and lots of paint on this one, and kind of like the strange shaped pear next to the more perfect apple.

Black Cap Chickadee: Sold

I love doing bird portraits -- and who doesn't like a chickadee? I used thick paint for the bird, on a rusty background to pop him out.

Sunny Portrait: Sold

This is one of the giant sunflowers that grow next to our house. I painted this flower's portrait plein air last summer, and had much fun with lots of thick paint.

Lemonade: Sold

This vintage ball tilt pitcher was a "find" from Stillwater, Minnesota. I love it, and have used it in many paintings. It looks good with my favorite mug and a beautiful fresh lemon.

Alki Beach Seattle: Sold

This is a painting of Alki Beach in Seattle on an April morning. There are lots of opportunities for painters in this area, with lots of people, dogs, ferries, and other subjects ....the trick is narrowing down and simplifying.

Santa Rita Mountains: Sold

This piece was painted on a beautiful April morning after a plein air workshop with professional painter Phil Starke. His class was wonderful, and it was really fun to be able to work quickly to capture the feel of the morning and the gorgeous scenery. The Santa Rita Mts are South of Tucson, AZ. and are well known as a haven for birds.

Maui Orchids:Sold

I came upon these beautiful white fairy orchids while on a walk in Maui one year. They were sitting in pots in an old shed - a rather unlikely place it seemed to me. They were just waiting to be painted.

Seattle Spring: Sold

This piece was painted from a photo taken last Spring on a gorgeous day in the Seattle Arboretum. I used lots of thick paint, and just tried to capture the soft colors of Spring. The featured tree is one of their famous cherries.

Laundry Day: Sold

I painted this from a photo taken by my neighbor when she visited an Afrikan village. She found the people though poor to be very happy with their families, friends, and village life. Somehow this cheerful scene seemed to convey the feelings they expressed.

Tuxedo Cat: Sold

Black and white cats always have such an air of elegance and attitude, their portraits are fun to paint. The high contrast of their color provides natural drama.

Garden Gate

This lovely garden is near our home in West Seattle. The arbor of peach roses and purple clemetis was too tempting to resist, although it was a challenge to simplify all of the textures and colors in the scene.
